Local SEO in 2026: The Complete Business Guide

How to rank in Google Maps and Yandex Maps, why NAP matters, and why one page isn't enough — everything you need to know about local search.

When someone searches 'dentist near me' or 'phone repair downtown' — they see a Local Pack (three businesses on a map). Getting there means 3x more calls. Here's how.

What local SEO actually is

A set of actions to improve visibility in geo-targeted searches. Unlike regular SEO, here it's not just about keywords — trust signals matter: maps, reviews, data consistency.

NAP — the foundation of local SEO

NAP = Name, Address, Phone. Your business name, address, and phone number must be identical everywhere: your website, Google Business Profile, Yandex Business, directories like Yelp, Yellow Pages. Inconsistency signals unreliability to search engines.

Google Business Profile: the first step

  • Create and verify your profile
  • Fill in everything: hours, categories (primary + secondary), description with keywords
  • Add photos: exterior, interior, team, products
  • Post updates at least weekly (promotions, news, changes)
  • Respond to every review — positive and negative

Location pages: if you serve multiple cities

One generic 'Services' page won't rank for 'attorney Austin TX'. You need dedicated landing pages per city: /services/austin with unique content about that market.

Don't copy the same page and change the city name. Google detects duplicate content and drops rankings. Each location page needs genuinely unique copy.

Reviews: how to collect them properly

Review count, freshness, and rating directly impact Local Pack placement. Best method: send a Google profile link to clients via SMS or messaging app right after service delivery.

Schema LocalBusiness markup

Structured data in your site code that tells Google: 'This is a local business, here's its address, phone, hours, and rating.' Helps appear in rich snippets and builds search engine trust.

"Local SEO is a marathon, not a sprint. But first results are visible within 4–8 weeks."
